Controversial $32 Million NYC DOE Textbook Deal Moves Forward

A controversial spending

I was quoted in a New York Daily News article about the New York City Department of Education (DOE)’s plans to move forward with a controversial plan to spend $32 million in McGraw Hill textbooks to schools. The DOE apparently made no review of how good they are and did not negotiate a price discount. Schools that purchase the textbooks would even have to pay a 7% shipping fee.

“Someone needs to look into the terrible deals that NYC DOE makes for schools,” I wrote on a Twitter post that was later quoted in the article, written by Kayla Bamberger. “It’s very frustrating that while schools have endured tough budget cuts this year, the DOE is apparently wasting money with inefficient contract,” I said in the article.
